"Architecture is the learned game; correct and magnificent; of forms assembled in the light ...”

South Africa has world-class architects with work featuring in publications such as Architectural Digest, Architectural Record, Architektur & Wohnen, The Phaidon Atlas of 21st Century World Architecture… and more.

Wonderfully Diverse

Architectural designs and styles are wonderfully diversified, varying from historic Cape Dutch, to ultra-contemporary, to traditional African vernacular.

Our guests get taken on private home visits, accompanied by one of South Africa’s most well-known architects who takes these visits to a whole new level by explaining the design, architectural statement, interior areas and landscaping of each house visited.

To visit some of the stunning private homes designed by famous South African architects is a rare chance to experience contemporary South African and African architecture in a way only a few privileged people will ever do.

Exclusive to ArtnAfrica

The homes are not open to the public and visiting them is an exclusive ArtnAfrica activity, as varied as the architectural styles themselves:

  • ultra-contemporary private homes where the principles of modern design are superbly illustrated,
  • the tiny streets of the Bo-Kaap where peeking into a colourful Cape Malay home is often rewarded with a traditional Bo-Kaap snack,
  • a historic Cape Dutch home somewhere in the Winelands where a centuries-old hearth may take centre stage in the kitchen, sharing volumes about the generations who had lived there before.
